Summer is near and the bees were having a good time inside a spa, literally. Ray Johnson came to the rescue and ‘vacuumed’ the bees using his modified bee box and brought the bees home.

Ray’s modified Vacuum Box

This is a modified box by Ray Johnson how to vacuum the bees from the frames then added them to the proper hive. According to Ray, “I just use a normal box with the entrance blocked with high density foam, I then modified the lid by placing a divider on the inside and securing some shade cloth over it to act as a filter on the side where the vacuum hose hooks onto to stop the bees getting sucked back out of the box, so to operate it I hook up a hose to the hole labelled IN and hook up the vacuum to the hole labelled OUT the bees get sucked up and deposited into the box you can then remove the modified lid add some frames and the new lid and you have a hive ready to go.”
